Baltoro glacier avalanche kills 3

An avalanche on the Boltoro Glacier in Pakistan has killed three porters. There are injured people still trapped under the avalanche. Four others are reported as being critically injured.

The Baltoro Glacier is the easiest way for climbers to make their way to K2 and other surrounding peaks such as Broad Peak and Gasherbrum 1 and 2. It is the 5th largest glacier in the world outside of the polar areas.

The Pakistan government were considering their options. They are thinking of sending a helicopter to the avalanche area to help rescue those still trapped.

In this unfortunate accident near Urdukas, four were injured and had already been airlifted to Skardu. The dead bodies were also shifted to their native villages.
May their souls rest in peace.

Yeah – I couldn’t work out whether this was the same incident that I witnessed or a different one! Apparently the local press was reporting 26 dead so we had very concerned families of the Pakistani’s on the trek.
