Kazakhstan climbers visas expire

After 2 months entering China there is a visa problem for the Kazakhstan climbers of the North Ridge expedition. They have been informed that they have expired. Maxut Zumayev says that they are trying as hard as possible to resolve this problem and have the visa extended.

Meanwhile the expedition is preparing for what would almost for sure to be their last attempt up K2. All of the camps are in place and it will be just a matter of when they decide to launch up the mountain. This date is still not known. It will depend upon the weather forecast.

Maxut says that climbing up K2 will not be the most difficult part of the climb. Rather it will be the descent. The climbers will be extremely tired and will need to take care to avoid an accident. Also they will be taking down all of their equipment.

The International expedition consists of: Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ralf Dujmovits, Maxut Zumayev, Vassiliy Pivtsov, Tommy Heinrich and Darek Zaluski.
