At the moment the North Ridge Expedition have been broken into 2 separate groups. Both Tommy Heinrich and Darius Zaluski have gone down to the base camp, which is referred to the Chinese camp at 3800m. This is their lowest camp. On the other hand Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ralf Dujmovits, Maxut Zumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov are at advanced base camp.
Being at the lowest camp will allow Heinrich and Zaluski recovery time for the next summit attempt. But the other climbers feel that they do not have the time to go down there because they have to be alert for any break in the weather.
A tent in advanced base camp was damaged by heavy snow fall. They have been able to repair it.
The weather will improve, Maxut Zumayev says. There has been poor weather since they descended on their last foray up K2.
The expedition consists of: Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ralf Dujmovits, Tommy Heinrich, Darius Zaluski, Maxut Zumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov. Kaltenbrunner, Zumayev and Pivtsov have all climbed 13 8000m mountains and need to climb K2 to complete all 14.
