The North Ridge Expedition on K2 have decided not to make a summit bid on K2 when they next go up. They had a talk and believe that it would take too much energy to go for the summit given how tough the ridge has been.
Maxut said that if they went for the top this time, they would have nothing left after making the summit. He said it was important that they not risk everything and risk their lives.
He also said that he was aware that expeditions on the Pakistan – south side – of K2 will be making a summit bid in the coming days. He said that the north ridge of K2 was a harder challenge than the south. There was less sun falling on it, thus there was more snow. Also it was steeper. Old ropes from previous years are on the Pakistan side, while there is a lot less on the north ridge. But he said as athletes it was a challenge to climb such a difficult route.
