Maxut Zumayev has posted on his website that the expedition is confident that it can go further up K2’s North Ridge than they have so far. Last week they reached 6400m and made camp 2 there. The challenge for this week will be to make a camp somewhere between 7100m and 7400m.
Both Maxut Zumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov descended down to base camp at 3900m because Maxut had a damaged boot. He must have replaced it at this camp. While there they refreshed themselves at the lower altitude.
In the coming week the are hoping for better conditions on the ridge for climbing. The had encountered deep snow on the ridge on the way to camp 2.
The next 4 to 5 days are expected to have clear weather. This will give them the opportunity to make the maximum progress possible. However, moderate winds are predicted through most of the week. On Tuesday( today) they were expected to go back up the ridge.
The expedition consists of: Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ralf Dujmovits, Tommy Heinrich, Darius Zaluski, Maxut Zumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov.
