Pakistan side of K2 looks drier than previous years

Both Kinga Baranowska and Fabrizio Zangrilli have said on their websites that K2 looks to more devoid of snow than usual. The few times that they gone to the very base of the mountain they have noticed this.

Rock fall is the issue that worries Zangrilli this year. At the base of the Cesen route he noticed that there was more rock debris than previous years.

They are not sure what this will mean to climbing, as they haven’t started climbing the mountain yet. Nor would they know what conditions would be like higher up till they get there.
