Kaltenbrunner hopes for less rock fall on Chinese side of K2

Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner is hoping that there is less rock fall on the north side of K2 in comparison to the Cesen route she has been taking. She said that there is less sun on this side, and hopes that this means less rocks coming loose. On the Pakistan side there have been in previous years serious issues with rock fall. Either rocks falling from above or less certainty where they are climbing because the rocks have become loose.

In 2010 on the Cesen route there were reports of rocks flying from above and putting holes in tents. Last year though was warmer on the mountain.

Kaltenbrunner is looking forward to the route they are taking on the Chinese side. She said it is like a whole new route to her because she has never been on this side.

She said that the route is in 4 stages. Thus one can expect 4 camps along the way.
