Cesen route has 14 climbers on summit attempt

It has been reported that a sizable number of climbers are currently attempting to get up K2 via the Cesen route. There are 14 in all. Amongst those going up can be expected those who went up there a week ago: Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ralf Dujmovitz, Fabrizio Zangrilli, Fredrik Ericsson, Trey Cook and Kinga Baranowska.

It has been reported that they will independently climb the final section of K2 – the bottleneck – without the assistance of those coming up the Abruzzi Spur. They must have worked out how they are going to do it. They have 500m of rope with which to put ropes on the bottleneck and the Traverse. Also some climbers are carrying now markers, so if they do make the summit, they will have left these markers on the route so that they do not become lost on the way down.
