Zangrilli arrived in Pakistan 3 days ago. He is leading a group of climbers from ATP who are going to climb Broad Peak and K2. Last year he went to K2 leading the ATP expedition and reached the Traverse before turning back.
Recently, he led a failed expedition for ATP to scale Makalu. Poor weather was the main reason that none of the group made it to the top.
He noticed how quiet it was in Pakistan in terms of expeditions there. Last year there were 70 permits given to expeditions for the whole range of mountains around K2. This year there were only 25. He said that there were a range of reasons for this happening, among them the terrorist problems in parts of that country.
He is an extremely capable and fit mountaineer.
