Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner summits Everest, just K2 left

Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner has made the summit of Everest today. This is her 13th 8000m mountain. She was climbing from the north side of Everest. She had changed her route to the top after her husband believed the conditions were too tough. The weather has made the climb difficult, with higher than normal winds affecting the climbers.

All that is left for her is to climb K2 She has previously said that she would make an attempt if she had the energy to do it.

Given that it is very likely that she will be going to K2 this year, it makes it an exciting time coming from June to August when there will be other teams also trying to climb the mountain. There will be quite a few climbers who have attempted it before, and this experience will only help these climbers. Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner showed great physical strength in her attempt on K2 last year and it was really the difficult conditions that prevented her from reaching the summit.
