K2 summiteer Marco Da Pozzo dies changing light bulb

Recently there was tragic news that Marco Da Pozzo died while changing the light bulb of a ski resort church roof. He had been asked by the priest to change it and had all of the safety equipment needed to do it. This was part of regular maintenance to the 230 foot tower. Unfortunately, he slipped and fell crashing into a stone wall. It happened in Cortina D’Ampezzo in Italy.

In 2004 he made the summit of K2 with a number of other climbers. The group that he was climbing with was known as the Squirrels. This group made the summit of K2 on the 27th of July 2004. During that summit day they had left at 10pm the night before, and arrived at the summit about 9 hours later in the early morning.

He was known as a brilliant climber of the Scoiattoli( Squirrels) mountaineering club and one of Italy’s best high altitude climbers.
