Deep snow has been reported on the Traverse above the Bottleneck on K2. The Traverse is a section above the Bottleneck under the ice seracs at about 8300m before the direct approach to the summit. Several climbers including Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner have been making their way towards the summit today.
More worrying is the fact that it is 3pm Pakistan time. Since it is summer there, daylight will last for maybe 5 hours. Whether there is enough time to summit and get back down before it gets dark is debatable. From this report it could be dangerous to summit especially considering that it is possible they would have to descend the Bottleneck in dark conditions or bivouac near the summit . This may or may not happen.
