A joint effort between Kazakhs and Russians is the latest bid for the summit of K2 this year. They have been joined by a Chinese climber, a Korean, 2 Sherpas, and a Pakistani HAP.
Latest reports is that they have made it to C3. Apparently there has been ropes fixed up to this stage. But after this there has not been.
The groups beforehand turned back through a mixture of weather, deep snow, and high avalanche risk. It is yet to be confirmed whether climbers made it to the bottleneck this year. This was an earlier report of difficulties in this area, and even an attempt on the rocks to the left of the bottleneck.
